Monday December 10th: The day we had been counting down to for months was finally here. Except one problem, there was no baby. Not only was there no baby, but there was not even a hint that he was thinking about coming soon. I had a Dr. appt and she checked me and I was dilated to a 2 and hardly effaced (same as the last two weeks). The baby's heartbeat sounded great but she wanted to make sure everything else was going well so she hooked me up to the moniters for 15 minutes to track his heart rate and movement. Everything looked great do my doctor gave me the option to schedule an induction for sometime this week or the next, but that she didnt like babies to go more than a week overdue because thats when there seem to be more complications. Since my mom already had her plane tickets for this week and James was going to be on his 7 days off shift at work and we had plane tickets to CA in 2 week (and lets be real. What 9 months pregnant lady is going to choose to wait longer when given the option) So we decided to schedule it for that week. The next time my doctor was "on" was Wednesday (12-12-12). I thought it would be cool to have the baby on that day, so we scheduled it for Wednesday at 5am that way the baby would come by evening...or so we thought.
Tuesday December 11th: That morning I cleaned our already clean house (since my crazy nesting instincts had me cleaning places I didnt even know existed the previous weeks). Then in the afternoon I picked up my mom from the airport, we grabbed some groceries, and hung out for the day. James arrived home from work and went to play some basketball and we did everything we could think of to keep ourselves busy.
Wednesday December 12th: After tossing and turning all night our alarms finally went off at 4:30 to get ready to go. As I got out of the shower my phone was ringing. It was the hospital saying they had alot of ladies come in last night who were in labor and they were finishing up with them and we would need to be pushed back to come in later that day. We were slightly dissappointed because we had gotten up and showered and were all ready to go, but tried to get some more rest because we knew there wouldnt be much time for rest later on. We ended up heading into the hospital at about 10:30 and after being checked in and hooked up they started the pitocin at 12. James went and rented some movies and stocked up on candy for the day. The first few hours it didnt seem like anything was happening or changing at all. Finally my doctor came in to check on my progress and I was dilated to a 3, but not much of anything else. She decided to use a water filled balloon to help expand my cervix and said she would be back in a few hours to check on me. Things started to feel a bit more like something was happening and I could feel where a contraction was starting and ending without watching it happen on the screen. After my doctor was done with clinicals she came back to check again I was a 5. She took out the balloon and broke my water. Let me just say on a side note I am SO glad my water didnt break anywhere else besides a time and place where I was totally anticipating it. Things started picking up and becoming a little more painful but I kept waiting for more intense pain because I knew no pain = no progress. I was up and about bouncing on a birthing ball walking around my room and doing things to hopefully aide the process. James was such a good support helping me with whatever I needed throughout the whole process. The nurses continued checking my dilation and upping the pitocin, but things were slow moving. By about 8pm I had reached a 7 and I was warned transition was coming and that it was going to get more intense but usually lasts much shorter than the early progress of labor. I once again denied the epidural. (Not because I had something to prove, but because I had read birth stories, heard other peoples birth stories and felt this little boy move around inside of me for months I wanted to feel birth and know what it was like for me. Also, I didnt want to be immobile during the whole process). From 8pm to 10pm was the most intense contractions accompanied with throwing up I was sure I was almost to a 10. My doctor arrived after going to a white elephant party and was coming back to check on me. Lucky for her she had asked us earlier what to bring and my jokester of a husband told her chocolate laxatives and a roll of toilet paper wrapped together and she told us it was the hit of the night. When she checked my progress I was only at a 9. I thought to myself if all those crazy contractions only dialted me one centimeter how much longer and more contractions for a whole other centimeter. Never in my life did a centimeter feel like such a HUGE amount to move! I was stuck at a 9 for an hour and finally at 11pm I was told I could push. I'll leave out the wonderful details of the end of labor, but after 3 LONG and HARD hours of pushing and the baby pushing on my tailbone my doctor said my cervix was starting to swell so I could either push this baby out or a c-section was in my near future. I was exauhsted to say the least, but I guess that was all the motivation I needed because James Caysen Logan was born at 2:09 am. The first things I noticed was all his hair and his long fingernails. He was perfect! He weighed in at 6lbs 12oz and 20.5 inches long. James helped cut the cord and give him his first bath. He was already so good with him. We felt so loved when my mom and James family came to the hospital at 4am just to meet our new addition to the family :)
The rest of our stay at the hospital went very smooth. I LOVED my nurses who were there during delivery and when I was checking out. They were so supportive, clean, cheerful, and helpful with all my questions and needs.
Blogger is being weird about uploading pictures so ill have to do that another time. So pictures and more updates on our life at home to come!

Time
It's funny how time works. I remember being an older child sitting in "time out" and wishing that I could make time go by fast, but as I was sitting there I was thinking about the next thing on my agenda that day, playing at my friends house. I then decided I wanted time to go by slow so that way I could have lots of playing time.
Just as I was torn many years ago about time I find myself in the same dilemma today. A part of me wants these last 5.5 weeks of pregnancy to go by fast so that I can finally meet my little guy, but at the same time these last few weeks are the last precious weeks that James and I will be just us 2. Dont get me wrong I am ESTATIC to be having baby and don't want it any other way, but I do know that alot of things are going to change post baby. Our sporadic, impulsive, living on a limb kind of life style is going to have to change and I want to be sure to enjoy these last few weeks we have to live this way (you're probably thinking...its about time they grow up haha)
Patiently waiting for this baby to come reminds me a lot of when I was patiently waiting (or attempting to) for James to come home from his mission. The situations are very similar. I knew the approximate date months before the meeting would happen, we knew each other - to some degree - from writing letters, just like I know this baby to some degree from a) him being made up of genes from James and I and b) because I have spent 24/7 with him for the last 8 months. :), and most of all the meeting face-to-face. What will it be like when we see each other for the first time? what will I say? how will I react? cry, laugh, smile,be in shock, how will he feel? will he really look like the pictures? how will my family act when they meet him? Will they truly understand this connection I have with this boy?
Just like all the answers to those questions turned out perfect in regards to meeting James I know they will also be answered perfect in their own way in regards to our little boy. SO EXCITED!

Lately...
Here's some funny things that have happened lately...pregnancy related.
- For the first time I tried to hit the garage button, then run and jump over the sensor and failed!
-Me "Hey babe Im running to the store" James "oh yeah running?? That's gonna be a little hard for you." Me "Ill jump up and do that right now" James "Please dont jump up you might hurt yourself" haha he thinks hes so funny.
- An old old man at the doctors office literally yelled across the waiting room to me, "when are the twins due?" (everyone else looks at me to how I'm gonna respond...awkward)
- Good thing there's no cameras in public bathroom stalls because I STILL do not flush with my hand, but awkwardly lift my foot to hit the flusher. (I used to try and avoid public bathrooms at all costs, but when your deciding between peeing your pants or going in one, I have had to give in)
- Being pregnant my asthma has been acting up and having baby trying to jam himself where your lungs go doesnt make breathing any easier. So the other day James and I went to the dentist. He went second, so when we arrived home he was still VERY numb. I was telling him a story and he started laughing. I glanced over from what I was doing and I see half my husbands face in a full out busting up laugh and the other half perfectly limp and slightly droopy. HILARIOUS. one of those moments in time I wish I could freeze forever. As a result I fell to the ground laughing which led to minor asthma attack, which led to full on tears from laughing, which led to the baby giving a big jump on my full bladder and I may or may not have peed my pants a little. Oh the memories.
34.5 weeks! yay! Cant wait for our little guy to be here!

Running for Moore
The first weekend in October we ran a 5k in Stansbury to raise money for a little 4 year old girl McKayla. James and Joey played basketball at the church with her dad growing up and she recently developed cancer. You can visit her page on facebook under Team McKayla. Such a strong little girl.
I wasn't planning on running the whole 3 miles, considering I was 7 months along at this time, but after jogging for a bit I felt pretty good and was able to complete the race in 30 minutes. Pretty sad compared to my other 3 mile times, but hey ill take what I can get for carrying 2 of us! Sadly James had to work that day, but I love having my Logan family close to do fun things like this together!

25 on the 25th! Pictures Update!
James was the brithday boy last week! He had his golden brithday where he turned the same age as the date of his birthday. He was so lucky to be on his 7 days off rotation on his work schedule, so we were able to do lots of celebrating. On Saturday we went out with some friends to dinner at one of our favorite Mexican places. It was delicious as always and they even sang him happy birthday in Spanish! Then we came back and played a fun game of volleyball.
Sunday we celebrated with James family. It was the Brigham City Temple Dedication and then we went to James parents for a delicious dinner and Apple Spice cake with cream cheese frosting (special requests of the birthday boy). On Monday James took me golfing for the first time and it was SO fun driving around the golf course and watching my hubby practice his new found love. Then later that night we went to an outdoor movie at the highschool: How to Train a Dragon (so cute :) Then on Tuesday (his actual birthday) he had bacon and eggs for breakfast, opened some presents, went to a work golf tournament, Alyssa bought steaks to BBQ for dinner and then I played volleyball and he played basketball that night. I feel like im forgetting more of the fun things we did, but it was so nice having time to spend together. Also, we took a drive up the canyon to see all the fall leaves and it was AMAZING! This California girl didn't realize there was actually a season for Fall lol, but I love that Utah actually HAS the season that I read about in school books growing up haha! Other things we did this week was go to lunch with Jim and Joey, spend lots of time watching my belly move from our active son, watch my belly grow, cook some delicious dinners together, like crepes, and then it was back to work on Friday night for James! Whew! A fun filled busy week :)

The Belly has Arrived!
Dang! It's been a month from my last post and alot of things have sure changed as far as the pregnancy situation goes. My stomach has grown and I finally look like im 28.5 weeks pregnant! For awhile I would read how long and big the baby would be each week and wonder how in the heck he was fitting in there, but he shifted how he's been laying and my belly is much more prominent. I will admit, slightly more uncomfortable though. Also over the past month he reached my ribs and I think he thinks its a fun game to see how many kicks/punches he can get in before I press my hand on the spot he's getting me. That usually stops him. I LOVE feeling him move so much! It kind of freaks me out if im sitting on the couch watching my belly and I see one of his limbs just travel across my stomach. WEIRD, but totally amazing at the same time :) My doctor said that everything looked great at my appointment this week and next time I come in it will start being every 2 weeks. I cant beileve only 11.5 weeks and he will be here!
Everyone keeps asking me what I am doing to keep myself busy since I'm not in school and decided not to take a full-time teaching job. Well, I've been crafting, sewing, and organizing all the things I wanted to do the first year and a half of being married that I never had a free second to do because of school and my commute. I love it. Also, I'm actually able to be a friend and make friends, teach piano lessons, and watch football (one of my favorite fall activities). The big thing I was planning to do was substitute this school year. I am STILL in the process of doing this and thanks to the newly re-vamped, detailed, complicated, time consuming process of applying to be a substitute for Tooele School District (even though I JUST graduated with a double major and minor in teaching) Im still jumping through the last 2 hoops and will officially start the first week of October. I will say as frustrated as I was about the whole process of applying to be a sub I am glad that they have a system in place to do their best to ensure better substitute teachers for this district. I CANNOT wait to be back in the classroom again :)
Besides all that this past month James's Aunt & Uncle came out to visit. It was so fun to see them, celebrate their birthdays, and show them some things around Utah. Also, while they were here I thought it was Christmas for a moment because they are so kind and brought baskets of things for our little man, clothes, hooded towel, blanket, more clothes, toys! I was astonished at how much they spoiled us! It makes it feel so real as we start filling up his closet and setting up his crib! Something else that has made the baby coming feel more real is that we registered just this last week at Babies R Us and Target. It was SOO fun going around the aisle and deciding what would be best for our lil guy. Registering did make me feel A) unprepared B) OMG I'm really gonna be a mom! Im going to be responsible for raising this boy and teaching him and taking care of him...am I ready for that??? .... idk that ill ever be ready, but I am excited for it!

A Time of Learning
Second Trimester has been REALLY easy for me. Besides some heartburn and some asthma issues and some back pain and achy feet at the end of the day everything has gone so smooth for me. I know that some people during pregnancy complain and complain and complain some more. I definitely did not want to be that friend/wife/daughter who was grumpy all pregnancy so I have tried hard to keep a smile on when things arent comfortable and remember what this is all about...our son.
Lately I've been having a hard hard time getting over the fact that my body is CHANGING and I had to accept to tough realizations:
- I am going to see numbers I've never seen before when I step on the scale
- I am going to have to let go/make modifications to my wardrobe to cover my ever growing belly
- No matter how often or for how long I go to the gym I AM going to put on weight and my body WILL store fat alot easier
- I can't workout like I did before
- I couldn't/can't wakeboard, go on long hard hikes, rock climb and other fun summer activities
- My eating habits have to change so that I can get some more calories, but make them calories that count and are filled with nutrients
These are just a few of the things that have been hard adjustments for me. Even harder than being sick, having minor asthma attacks, having heartburn, back pain, and feet that I want to amputate by the end of the day. I knew that by getting pregnant my body would change and that all of these changes would happen. What I couldn't have anticipated is what parts of pregnancy would be hard for me.
All of that being said I wouldn't change a thing! I love so many things about being pregnant :)
- I LOVE feeling our little man squirm, roll, kick, punch all.day.long.
-I LOVE knowing that I am growing a little human inside of me
-I LOVE that Heavenly Father trusted us to have one of his children in our family to love and care for
-I LOVE when my husband talks to my belly or just rests his hand on my belly to feel him move
-I LOVE when my husband emails me from work and ends with "I miss you babe and I miss my son. Tell him I love him"
-I LOVE that in 15.5 weeks we will have another member of our family
-I LOVE looking at baby things and choosing things out not for a friend or a shower, but for ME and for MY baby to wear and use :)
-I LOVE getting those butterflies everytime I see baby things in the store or someone holding a new baby
-I LOVE the constant desire to be sewing, making, setting up something for our son
-I LOVE thinking of names and wondering what will be the best fit for our boy
And something that I've had to learn from my things that I listed that have been hard is that I love this oppurtunity I have to learn so much. I am grateful to learn to be selfless in a way no other circumstance can teach you. To completely turn my body over to the number one priority...taking care of our son. To learn to think of another person everytime I put something in my mouth to eat or decide if I should really do one activity or another. As I was feeling a little down the other night James turned to me and said.."you know you're the lucky one though. You're the one that gets to show our son you love him so much before he is even born. By making the sacrifices you are you are showing him the ultimate form of love the love of a mother." I am so grateful for such a supportive husband who always knows the right things to say. And when I forget how to be so selfless I just look at how James treats me...like walking in from a 12 hr shift at work and the first thing he does is kiss my forehead and start rubbing my feet or when im tossing and turning in the middle of the night and cant get comfortable he goes upstairs, grabs me an extra pillow and a glass of water without me saying a thing. Then I remember what being selfless is all about. I realize all of the things that I am learning while being pregnant are things that will help me in the future of raising children: selflessness, lack of sleep, some loss of control over everything, trying to balance attention for my husband and attention for kids and so much more.
I realize that a woman's attitude during pregnancy is everything. I could spend my time worrying about all the things that have been hard so far, but by doing that I would miss out on all the great wonderful things that I've been able to love. I am so happy to be experiencing all of this!
